[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ okay, then he'll keep rubbing little circles into lyssa's hip. ]

Not a fan of spontaneity?

[ wiggles a little bit, feeling ticklish. ]

Aren't I always spontaneous in some way?

[ eyebrow goes up a little higher. okay, he'll apply more pressure then. ]

Hm. Not as much as to merit 'always'.

[ leans forward to nose at nick's own before he briefly grazes his lips against the other's mouth. ]

Is that a bad thing?

[ leans in to bite lightly at lyssa's lower lip, worrying at it briefly before pulling away just enough to talk against his mouth. ]

I think I'd rather have you guessing.

If that's what you wish, sir.

[ --is all that he's going to say for now, throwing away the idea of going into a discussion again by pressing himself against nick, firmly locking lips with him. ]

[ work had been long for her, but after picking up her daughter from kindergarten and going out to eat at their favorite diner, they were close enough to nick's place to swing by and say hello. at least that's what alice wanted, tugging and saying that she "drewded uncle a buttahfly" (the typical picture). so who was she to say no to that demand? makes a turn into a free space in front of the apartment complex when they arrive, which was a miracle for her, as her daughter had taken to nodding off on the way there.

she was dead weight when taking her out of the car and hoisting her up to rest comfortably in her arms, handling the doodle of the butterfly with great care as to not drop it or ruin it. but it's easy after that, as she is used to hauling around a child for hours on end when necessary, so a short walk to nick's apartment was easy compared to that.

isn't surprised that the door is locked when she arrives and there's no answer after a light knock or two, juggling both her daughter, the drawing, and her purse to nab the spare key. she's expecting him to just be asleep at his usual drawing area, but when she opens the door and steps in, there's no sight of him anywhere. blinks a bit and walks to the couch to gently place alice there, stroking her hair a few times before making her way to the kitchen.

nope, not there. she's weary in checking anywhere else, but after glancing over her shoulder at her daughter she decides it's best to check just in case. (anything could have happened to him, after all.) ]

[ after poking her head into the bathroom she walks confidently to his doorway, though she regrets it the moment she does; closes her eyes and turns her head slightly to the left, even if her hand had automatically gone to her face to shield the sight.

just groans. she's sure that he's seen her already, and thus: ]

I'll wait out in the living room.

[ & then she's shutting the door, making a face (augh why) before going to join alice on the couch and mentally bleach out the image from her mind. ]

[ really, that needs to stop happening. once had him wanting to smuggle himself into brazil & never return. second had him sighing & wanting to knock himself unconscious. third-- well, the list goes on all the way to a(nother) single digit number (thankfully), but. well. no matter how many times, he's pretty sure that the embarrassment will stick around, even in a tiny amount.

he doesn't shove lyssa off, but he does make it a point to lean away & give the boy a small push. ]

Off. You remember where your clothes are at?

[ while he doesn't have much shame, which is why he had only glanced over his shoulder before returning to observe nick. slips off his lap as ordered, however, not one to complain in this specific type of situation. as he's picking up his underwear to slip them on: ]

The rest of my clothes are out in the living room.

[ as soon as lyssa's off, he's up & about, scooping up his own clothes to put them on. preferably, he'd have taken a shower before going to sit with his sister (& possibly alice), but that wasn't an immediate option, so he'd have to postpone it. perhaps he could take one after lyssa left.

not bothering to answer verbally, he exits the room, gaze narrowing in on the -- blouse, the dress & lyssa's clothes all folded up & neat. stepping on over to it, he's careful not to make too much noise on account of his sleeping niece. he scoops up the bundle after a quiet mumble of 'thanks' (for taking the trouble of cleaning up). but before he continues the conversation, he's turning heel to walk back into the room. placing everything on the bed, he nods at them. ] Your bag's still outside. Pick it up as you leave.

[ & he's turning heel again, but this time in the opposite direction. stepping out of the room, he closes the door behind him softly. standing with robin (& alice) before him, he feels a pang of guilt like he always does in these situations. ]

Hey. [ then his tone lightens a fraction: ] Couldn't take the time to call?

[ is busily stroking alice's hair with a hand, looking up at nick when she's fairly certain that the coast is clear. ]

I didn't think I had to, truth be told.

[ 'sorry' is on his lips, but what ends up coming out is something slightly more honest: ]

It might be safe to. Just 'til April.

[ rests her elbow on the edge of a knee, chin propped up in the palm of a hand. ]

So you're dumping him then? Must be a nice relationship, having the date all planned out and everything.

[ leans back against the door, hands slipping into the pockets of his pants to hide the slight twitch of guilt. ]

Can't really call this a relationship. [ short pause. ] He's also free to leave whenever he wants.

[ raises an eyebrow slowly, but decides to press on while waiting for the teen in the other room to finish his business. ]

And if he happens to get attached to you? What then?

[ snorts out a small huff of laughter. ]

Don't worry. He's not the type.

[ voice slightly hardens, if only to get her point across. ]

He's human. You can't be completely sure, especially when--

[ immediately stops the conversation when the bedroom door slowly opens, lips twitching up into a polite smile. after the boy steps out: ]

Well hello again.

[ lightly shuts the door behind himself, flashing her a bright smile. ]

Good evening! You look as lovely as usual.

[ huffs out in amusement. ]

And you're still quite the charmer, as always.

[ walks over towards her, though only so he can pick up his stuff. ]

I only speak the truth, miss. [ inclines his head slightly. ] If you'll excuse me.

[ looks over his shoulder at nick with a flash of a smile before he exits the apartment without another word. ]

[ waits until lyssa's completely gone. walking up to the door, he locks it & turns back around toward robin with a small quirk of the lips. in complete deadpan: ]

Yes, with such meaningful interactions, you're a real expert on him. [ shakes his head. ] Some people just know what they want early on, sis.

Says the man who has never raised a child of his age before. [ sighs out loudly, running a hand through her hair. softer this time: ] I just wish you would've found a better way to cope.

[ eyes go briefly to the floor, then flicks back up. just as quietly: ]

I'm working on it. And this won't be forever. [ i can promise that. ]
