[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

Yeah! I thought it would be a great idea, since I assumed your dress would be vintage. [ turns a few times to show it off. ] Do you like it? Is it appropriate?

[ claps when he turns in genuine appreciation. ]

Yeah, I like it. [ a lot, actually. especially the fact that they match (for once). as for it being appropriate, she's not really sure, since she's fairly certain everyone else is going to be wearing dresses that they bought in stores like a week ago... ]

[ lips twitch into a wider smile, making a show of puffing out his chest (jokingly). ]

I like your dress as well, it's really unique. You look beautiful. [ shows her the wrist corsage. ] Can I put this on you?

[ the poof seems to preen a little at the compliment, despite the words not having been aimed at it. ]

Thanks. [ then blinks down at the corsage, admiring it for a moment before she finally snaps out of her staring to nod & extend a wrist out towards him. ]

[ takes it out of the box, carefully making sure that it fits just right on her wrist (the band stretches, but you never know). after a little bit of adjustment he steps back, extending an arm out to her. ]

Ready to go, m'lady?

[ quickly adjusts her bag & slips into her shoes. it's only then that she takes his arm & nods again in confirmation. ]

Lead the way, good gentleman.

[ gives her a returning nod before exiting the apartment, letting her lock up. then a thought strikes him, making him look at her curiously as he leads them down the hallway towards the elevator. ]

Is your dad away on business? I didn't see him anywhere.

Just a late day. [ he has those sometimes, usually when his hurricane partner goes missing for no apparent reasons. so he's probably scouring the building for the company's missing prodigy... that could either take a minute or ten hours. so she's not really sure when he'll be back & it'd taken an hour to calm him down that it's okay that he's not here to see her off for prom.

it was quite stressful, you know. ]

[ feels a little bad that he can't be there, sighing as his shoulders slump. ]

That's too bad... we'll show him pictures later. We're going to take an official one when we get there, after all, and I'm sure both our parents would like a copy or twelve.

[ stops in the middle of the hallway, lyssa's comment jolting a memory awake. ]

I forgot the camera.

[ pauses as well to look her way. glances at his watch and turns after a few seconds of consideration. ]

We have plenty of time to go get it.

[ unhooks her arm from around lyssa's. turns so that she's facing the direction of the hallway that would lead back to her apartment. ]

I'll go get it. [ she'll be back in five minutes. ]

[ doesn't complain, just nodding and stepping back a few paces to lean onto the wall. slips out his phone, showing it off. ]

I'll wait here and spend some quality time with my phone.

[ runs toward her apartment as fast as she can in her current get-up, fishing around for her keys in her bag for a moment before finding them. unlocking the door, she all but flails off her shoes in her hurry to reach the camera sitting innocently on the kitchen counter.

camera secured, she shoves that into her bag. going back to the door, she pulls on her shoes at a more normal pace. also locks the door at a normal pace. walks down the hallway in a relaxed state now that everything felt to be all right with the world. ]

I got it. [ see? she got it really quick, like she said. or... not-said. whichever. ]

[ quickly sends off the text message he decided to send nick at the last minute (doesn't expect a reply, but impulses were hard to resist), pocketing the phone when she ~~kwehs~~ comes back again. smiles down at her, once again offering his arm. ]

That was fast. [ begins their walk again. ] Got everything you need this time?

[ her arm tight around his, she nods tentatively. ]

I think so. [ she hopes so. ]

[ lifts his free hand to make it into a fist. ]

Never fear! I, the mighty driver, would gladly take you back in the blink of an eye if you realized that you forgot something else.

[ stares at the fist for a moment, then reaches over to give it a little pat. ]

The party is expecting you. [ & her, but mostly him. ]

[ shrugs a bit, lowering the hand again. winks over at her. ]

Ah, but my date isn't the party. You are, so you're more important.

[ gives a nod a though she thought about his logic & wholeheartedly agrees. well, she kinda did & does, so it's not a complete lie. ]

I'm pretty sure I've everything. [ so rushing back home probably isn't necessary. don't worry, lyssa. her trusty bag will come through for them if they're in a pinch. the camera was just a minor hiccup. ]

Then off we go!

[ that's all he'll say for now, leading them down the hallway once more. the journey from the elevator to the car is shorter than usual to him, going through his typical motions to escort her into the car. (thinks it's extra important at this moment, though. prom night was nothing to be sniffed at, after all!) once they're buckled in he's ~~putt putt putting~~ driving down the road, humming the my little pony theme song just for amanda. ]

[ immediately upon hearing the tune, she starts humming along, swaying back & forth as the lyrics run through her head.

watching the morning unfold~

... this is the best trip to the prom ever. ]

[ grins to himself when he hears her humming, knowing this is probably the only thing they'll be 'saying' for the remainder of the trip to their destination.

feels lucky when they find a free space right away (and close to the entrance, too!) as he parks in the spot, stepping around the car after shutting it off to, as usual, open amanda's door. though this time he politely extends his hand out to her, smiling. ]

[ takes the hand & uses that to support her exit out of the car. glances around at the area with a small amount of awe. ]

They put a lot of thought into it. [ & went all out, apparently. ]

[ shuts the door before locking up the car, keeping a hold on her hand while they move to the entrance. ]

Of course they did, it's prom! You know, the most important night for most of these students. Magical things happen!
