[ it felt like bad luck the moment his cellphone rang and woke him up after four hours of sleep. it felt like even worse luck when said person on the other line told nathan that he would be saying hello to their fifth and final member to the 'team'-- alone, which was apparently due to personal reasons from his other three co-workers. this did not deter nathan from furiously texting aaron in anger, only to get a short can't come as a reply. he didn't even bother texting hana, as she still had difficulties texting with an english-language phone, but he still called her and got her voicemail message, which only made him seethe even further.

the anger eventually subsided when coffee was deposited into his hands, drinking his life force happily (or as happy as nathan could get) while turning the corner from starbucks to sit on one of the many chairs littering the front of the shop. once he settled in and tossed his bag onto the table, nathan finally felt like all was right in the world, completely forgetting his original objective for the day. his coffee was his second love, after all, and it deserved his complete and undivided attention. ]

[ head tilts a tad when he sees that expression again, making him look down at the table as if chided. does not resist when nathan pulls away, simply settling back into his own chair with a more subdued smile as he admits to something. ]

[ feels slightly off-kilter at his words and expression, trying to figure out how he feels about it. looks away and inhales deeply, exhaling through his nose, as if slightly exhausted yet ready for something more. ]

[ leans back in his own chair and looks caleb up and down with his eyes. when he speaks again his voice light, almost as if this is suddenly an inside joke of sorts: ]

... and it's "I was nervous". Past tense.

[ sits up straight again, now giving a deep sigh. grabs caleb's forearm and puts it on the table. rolls up his own sleeve, putting it next to his. points at their arms. ]

What's the difference? Who is smaller?

. . . ? [ wonders if he'd be punished at if he tells the truth, but decides that the punishment would be worse if he lies. ]

[ would almost be impressed if he didn't think this was easy to understand... ]

Right. This--[ points to his own arm. ]--is "scrawny". This--[ points to caleb's arm. ]--is "normal". Get it now?

[ peers down at their arms for a moment, then looks up with a slight frown. ]

Nathan is normal too.

... yeah okay, if you see my family, I'm sure you'd say differently.

[ places a hand on nathan's arm, looking at him firmly, as if this is an important concept to communicate. ]

Nathan is normal. [ speaks the next words slowly, trying to word it correctly. ] Is okay as Nathan is.

[ here comes the awkward/embarrassed look on his face, along with side-glancing, slowly learning that he can't look him in the eye at these particular moments. ]

Uh. Well... I didn't mean I was abnormal...

Oh, uh. [ stops, looking as if he's struggling with this. ] I guess I meant "average", not "normal".

[ weighs his pros and cons with this, wondering how much he's already said for the day. frowns at himself briefly, then lets it go, deciding that that's enough for today. ]

[ flips open his phone. ] You're getting a cab this time. [ murmurs to himself as he flips through his contacts. ] Or our driver...

[ is mostly responds to the distress-type tone that he hears, already speaking even before he manages to full process what nathan is offering. ]

Is not bad! Walk is easy, and easy to find things and people.

Huh? [ stops when he lands on his personal driver's number (one he has never called before), lifting his thumb away from the key. ] You don't mind walking?
