[ he's not sure how, but he's absolutely certain that it's one of those mornings where waking up would be a Bad Idea. even when he's only half-awake, he can feel the dull throb in his head, signaling the presence of a progressively worsening migraine. presses a hand to his forehead gingerly as he peeks open one eye. shuts it immediately when the light amplifies the headache even further. somehow manages to roll over onto his side with a soft groan, expression twisting into one of pain as he patterns out his breathing.

several minutes later, reattempts at opening his eyes. is successful this time, leaving him to blink owlishly at the blurry image of the (foreign-but-not) room laid out before him. jerks bodily when he realizes that this is not his room, but tony's. doesn't quite get to the point of throwing himself off the bed, however, hindered quite successfully by the pounding headache. feels slightly better upon realizing that tony's strangely absent, filling him with a sense of hope that he can get away unscathed. as such, he stubbornly pushes down the memories as he wraps his arms around his head, concentrating on breathing & recovering so that he can escape as soon as possible. ]

[ nods & gives oliver a thankful glance before quickly making his way toward & up the stairs. when he thinks he's at a level where he won't be overheard if he keeps to a normal volume, he backs up against a wall to lean against it heavily. speaks into the phone softly. ]

. . . I'm feeling better. You?

[ shifts a bit on the edge of the bed he's seated on, shaking his head a little, even if anthony can't see it. ]

I'm alright.

[ but just alright. ]

[ & then there's another long pause, unsure of how else he should say what he really wants to say. just inhales, exhales, then stares down at the ground as his hand grips the phone a little tighter. ]

I'm sorry. I'll... be back. But I don't know when.

[ swallows at the words, tucking his chin against his collarbone as he emits an affirmative noise. ]

Okay. Are you goi--

[ cuts himself off awkwardly, unsure where his boundaries are. takes a deep breath, deciding to go with what he thinks is safe. ]

Okay. Take. . . take your time.

[ lets out a small mm in reply, feeling his shoulder fall a little for reasons he's not sure of. decides to end it with just that, thinking for a split second about saying goodbye (i'll see you later, chocobo) but he can't seem to work up enough energy to.

thus he simply closes his phone without another word, taking to staring down at the ground before placing his face into his hands while waiting for clara to return back home. ]

[ stares at the phone in silence when the line is cut, his expression blank. slowly closes the phone & keeps it cupped between his hands as he slides down onto the floor. cranes his head upward at the ceiling, blinking a little, not too certain how he's feeling. then he draws up his knees & rests his arms on them so that he can lean forward to press his forehead against those arms. lets himself daze a little as the thoughts come & go until something in the back of his mind reminds him that he's still at work.

pocketing his cellphone, he gets to his feet. but instead of immediately going downstairs to face his boss, he glances around for a bathroom. when he finds it, he peeks at the state of his face in the mirror & finds it thankfully dry. splashes his face with some water anyway before slapping at his cheeks a little & takes the time to make a few stupid faces at himself. ]

[ after scrubbing away the water & finding his face to be at a relatively neutral expression again, he's moves downstairs, peering around for oliver immediately. ]

Boss?

[ looks up from his seat on his usual stool, quickly getting up when he sees anthony come into view again. opens his mouth to ask him if he's alright (call it intuition at best) but instead he goes with something more appropriate: ]

Y-Yes?

[ wanders over to him. ]

I'm done. Sorry about that.

[ shakes his head slowly. ]

No, it's okay...

... [ lifts a hand when he's close enough, placing it on the side of anthony's face. ] Is everything alright?

[ leans against that hand & puts one of his own over it. ]

. . . I don't know. I'm not sure.

Oh... [ pauses. ] Um. D-Do you need a hug?

[ blinks at him, peers over at the front door for any (surprise) hurricane boyfriends, then nods. ]

Yes. Please.

[ lips twitch into a smile at those words, lifting his arms up a little bit as he scoots a few paces forward to put his arms around anthony. ]

[ wraps his own arms around oliver, gripping as tight as he dares while pressing his face into the blond hair gratefully. ]

Thank you.

[ settles into the hug nicely before patting his back gently. ]

You're welcome.

[ closes his eyes, relaxing a little. ]

. . . I told him.

[ blinks, peering up at anthony as best as possible in his position. ]

Told who?

[ releases an arm to gesture with it. ]

I. . . the friend I. . .

[ grows quieter. ]

. . . The one I hurt. I. . . told him.

Oh... [ presses his nose into anthony's chest, thinking for a moment on that. ] It... it didn't go well...?

[ droops a bit, pushing his nose back into the hair. ]

That's what I don't know. He left.

[ looks back up at him. ]
