[ the weeks seemed to drag by so slowly for him whilst robert were away, having little-to-no interest in the happenings around him throughout the duration of the other boy's leave. more often than not he would be seated by his window, gaze locked on the path that robert would surely return on. it was there that he stayed for most of his days, leaving it only to eat, bathe, or when his mother summoned him. regardless he would put on a smile for those around him, as if nothing was amiss and would say that his brother would surely return soon, that he would be gone for only a short while.

that short while turned into weeks. months. far longer than robert had ever been gone before. on his bad days he wondered if his brother had grown tired of his position (of their situation) and thus would not return for good, but those thoughts were always shadowed by the hope and faith he had in his prince. surely the day of his return would come.

opens his eyes slowly when the sound of music reaches his ears again, lifting his gaze back up towards the crowd of dancing people before him. after some time of simply gazing he sits up straighter in his chair, the one that is forever to his mother's right. does not look at her as she speaks to someone, his curiosity nonexistent. instead he raises his glass and slips at the liquid inside, going back to his silent thinking (of robert, of other things that had been on his mind for quite some while) as a somewhat glazed look overcomes his features once more. ]

[ glances around before he leans in and whispers lowly, as if it's a secret. ]

Heels may attract positive attention, but they are not kind to a lady's foot.

[ quirks one corner of her lips upward in amusement. straightens a little & plants her free hand on her hip. ]

Hmph. So you are saying that I will be bested by a soulless object?

I suppose we will have to wait and see, hm?

What a choice. Either my pride must suffer defeat, or my head may roll for misdeeds done against your feet.

If Robert were aware, I am certain the latter would be more likely to happen.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. And he does have his sneaky ways of keeping tabs on my behaviour and your safety.

Then we must be extra careful. [ begins to move again, continuing their conversation along the way. ] Though it is not like Robert has ever slipped and stepped on my feet before.

[ trots along by his side, raising a brow. ]

Oh. I do hope that he had enough manners to apologize.

[ chuckles a bit at the memory. ]

Perhaps a murmuring of semi-constant remorse.

Feh. Semi-constant remorse by our liege's standards is an eternal one.

Yes, he was very apologetic. [ stops when they get to the dance floor, inclining his head slightly. ] But be sure to keep this conversation a secret, if you can.

[ steps into her position with some ease, a hand resting lightly on his hip. ]

But of course. For if I mention it, he'd wish to know the context of how such knowledge fell into my hands, would he not?

[ also slips into his part nicely, taking an experimental first step for her sake. ]

You are quite right. How silly of me to think otherwise.

[ follows along after half a second of hesitation, narrowly avoiding annabelle's foot. ]

Agreed. Come now, princess. You and I are not strangers no longer.

[ wisely decides to take the lead for now, using the motions as a silent lesson. ]

Indeed we are not. Does this mean you will be willing to tell me all of your deep, dark secrets?

[ follows along slowly, eyes flickering down to their feet once or twice before she responds. ]

Like the size of my bust and hips, so that you may commission a new uniform for me? Why, of course.

[ turns slightly to laugh quietly into his shoulder. ]

I will be sure that it is made with the brightest shade of fabric.

[ smiles widely. ]

A shade of gold or silver, if you please. Yellow will also suffice. Or perhaps pink, to burn the colour into our liege's eyes?

If not pink for your default, I will surely have it made regardless. You may wear it for Robert's return.

And our collective reward will be the terror in his eyes.

[ hums in consideration. ]

I believe you are being quite a bad influence on me.

[ spins them around & releases a quiet breath when the action goes as planned without mistakes. ]

Yes, and that privilege is all mine.

[ raises eyebrows slightly at that, giving her an encouraging smile for a job well done. ]

How possessive of you to say so.

[ puffs out her chest a little, basking in the silent compliment. ]
