[ shivers a little underneath the covers when a chill disturbs his slumber, tucking himself a bit closer to caleb to leech off of his warmth. after a moment or two he cracks an eye open, shifting his gaze on over to the window when he feels like something is amiss. blinks once, twice, then slowly sits up in the bed as he gets a closer look at the outside world.

when he sees the snow that had piled up over the night and continued to litter the ground he can't help but get on his knees, smooshing his face and hands up against the glass as if he were an overexcited child. pries himself away after the tiniest of bounces on the bed to instead direct his attention to his sleeping companion. places a hand on his shoulder and lightly shakes. ]

Caleb. Caleb!

Cookie! Chip, chocolate. . . candy?

[ raises his hand, extending a pinky finger. ]

Guess we've got ourselves a deal, then.

[ hooks his pinky around nathan's & bobs them up & down a few times. ]

Deal! Promise!

[ nods, removing his hand to place it around his juice when that's over with. another sip later and he's tucking himself further into his companion, staring out the window. ]

Pretty, isn't it?

[ follows nathan's gaze, expression softening a bit. leans forward to rest his chin on the boy's head again, soaking in their shared warmth as his eyes slip half-closed. ]

Pretty. And peaceful. Is very nice.

[ gives another shy smile, closing his own eyes. ]

Yeah. I like this.

[ rubs his nose into the hair & blows a breath out into the strands, grinning. ]

Me too. But I like give present more. Nathan want present?

[ blinks in surprise, straightening himself to look at caleb. ]

Present?

Present! Christmas present.

[ opens his mouth, closes it. face lights up, giving an excited nod. ]

[ pauses for a moment, feeling a little hesitant in the gift he's chosen (wondering if it'd meet up to nathan's excitement). then slowly, he retracts an arm from where it held the other boy up to one of his ears, undoing an earring that's been with him for longer than he clearly remembers. it pops out easily enough & he's stares at it for a minute or two before bringing the arm back around nathan with the jewelry gripped in his palm. ]

Is not big. Or a lot of money, or. . . [ trails off to shake himself out of the uncharacteristic nervousness & opens his palm to finally show the earring. ] Is mine. Was mine for very long time. Want Nathan to have.

[ it certainly wasn't what he was expecting, the confusion and surprise written on his face when he blinks down at it. hesitates briefly, his own hand hovering over caleb's own before his face breaks out into a soft smile. places his hand there, using it as a comforting weight until he's ready to take the earring into his own palm. ]

I don't need something big and fancy. [ pauses, opening his hand to stare down at the item. ] If it's important to you, and you're giving it to me... that's enough. Thank you. I'll take good care of it.

[ a small smile spreads across his lips at the response. hugs nathan tight, speaking quietly. ]

It is old, and it is mine. Keep with Nathan so part of me stay with Nathan.

[ expression drops a little with those words, prompting him to lower his hand while still clutching onto it. speaks quietly: ]

I... have something for you too. A Christmas gift.

[ blinks confused, wondering if he should be happy or worried. ]

Erm. Is okay if Nathan do not want to give? I am happy with this Christmas.

[ sits there for a while longer before he shakes his head, turning to to smile at caleb. ]

No, I want you to have it. [ slowly wiggles out from their current position, standing. ] Wait right here, 'kay?

[ stares up at nathan, then nods. ]

Okay. I wait.

[ wanders off to his room, picking out an envelope from his bag. stares down at it for a while, giving himself a moment before he trots back into the living room. stands in front of the couch with a bright smile, holding the (slightly crumpled) envelope out to caleb. ]

Merry Christmas!

[ takes the envelope, squinting down at it in a confused manner. stares for a little while longer before glancing up at nathan's face. ]

Is letter? I read?

[ laughs a little and nods to his second question, scratching the back of his head nervously. ]

Something like that.

[ settles against the couch to open the envelope, tugging out the piece of paper. expression shuts down for a moment, spine straightening when he catches the word S.A.V.E., eyes dragging themselves across the english with a lot of effort. ten, fifteen minutes later, he's able to pick out the most important piece of information. five more minutes of digesting it, & another to--

stares up at nathan, looking a little shocked. ]

Is real? Really?

[ bends down to rest his knees on the ground, nodding up at caleb. ]

Very real.

How--? What?

[ ... & his brain finally short-circuits. ]

Was ist passiert?!

[ blinks, suddenly looking confused at his reaction. ]

Huh? You're not happy?

I do not understand. How? I go back to Deutschland?
