[ it's after his meet-up with his supervisor that he gets a call from robin to babysit alice. of course he says 'yes' -- he has nothing planned for the day & would never consciously turn down time with his niece. & like he told robin before, more free air should do him some good; who knows, if he's feeling better in mind, the body might follow. (he didn't really believe that since the damage from the accident has been said to be absolute, but a little bit of feigned hope wasn't too heavy to carry around.)

that's the context to their current scenario: at the park with alice, doing whatever she wants until it's time for lunch & ice cream. time with uncle nick is the time to get spoiled, so he doesn't worry too much about feeding her nutritional things; he's pretty sure his ~~mom~~ sis has that covered anyway. ]

[ while he's feeling a little awkward now that the standard time for a hug has passed. shifts a bit. ]

Mhmm. But that won't be for a while.

[ closes his eyes and shakes his head a bit. ]

You'll find something easily. Your ideas are splendid.

[ leans back against the couch a little, though he doesn't pull his arms away yet. ]

. . . Thanks. But there're different standards when they have to be built.

[ yawns a little, feeling sedated by the warmth. ]

I don't know that much about architecture, just what I've learned from you. So I guess it's more complicated than what I'm thinking.

[ gives lyssa a small nudge. ]

Most specialties are.

[ and he nudges him back with his head. ]

Fashion is so simple, though. Design something, give it to someone important, make a physical copy, give it to another important person; if they like it, then you're in. If not, then you're out. Though I'm not particularly fond of mainstream fashion, they only cater to tall, skinny people. I want to make things for all shapes and sizes!

[ ... tries nudging again, removing his arms from around lyssa. ]

Admirable. [ he means it. but again... ] But it'd be more effective if you make a statement after being established.

[ pouts when the hug is over with, pulling back to look at him. ]

Okay...

[ raises a brow at the expression. he's fairly certain lyssa understood his sentiments, but... ]

What?

[ lifts a hand to pat the side of nick's face before standing. ]

Your hugs are really nice, that's all.

[ head tilts away from the pat automatically. ]

[ blinks at the tilt, putting his hand down. ]

Am I not allowed to do that either?

[ blinks in honest confusion for a second before it seems to click. ]

That's a reflex. Not a lot of people touch my face.

Really? [ looks down at his hand, flexing it a little... then smiles at him. ] Then I will follow those other people!

[ looks at him small surprise & then nods. then pauses in thought. ]

Your other friends let you touch their faces that casually?

[ nods, moving to go check on the food. ]

They let me touch them a lot, if I want to.

[ stands up from the couch to follow. ]

Always been like that or got used to it?

I think it's always been like that. [ shrugs, opening the oven to look into it. ] But it's not like I grab onto people or anything. I know my boundaries.

[ glances briefly at the (squished) bread rolls & then back at the rest of the kitchen. when was the last time it's been used this much? --probably last year? ]

I know. [ leans his hip against the table lightly. ] Guess I'm just used to a more conservative crowd.

[ peers over his shoulder at him in consideration. smiles a little, turning back to the uncooked food to start working on that stuff. ]

I'll try not to change that since you're so used to it.

[ snorts. ]

We'll compromise. I can handle it. [ in moderation. ]

Fair enough. [ nabs the tray of bread rolls, popping them into the oven. winks over at him. ] I'm not all that hard to please, anyway.

[ that's why it's so hard to get lyssa a present. but he doesn't say that out loud, of course. ]

Hugs, healthy eating, and what else?

[ hums, fiddling with this and that as he lists things off. ]

Helping you draw, my lady, my muse and family... I don't need much, other than a sketchbook and pencil.

[ blinks a bit. an eyebrow goes up. ]

Too early into college for that list to change?
