[ it felt like bad luck the moment his cellphone rang and woke him up after four hours of sleep. it felt like even worse luck when said person on the other line told nathan that he would be saying hello to their fifth and final member to the 'team'-- alone, which was apparently due to personal reasons from his other three co-workers. this did not deter nathan from furiously texting aaron in anger, only to get a short can't come as a reply. he didn't even bother texting hana, as she still had difficulties texting with an english-language phone, but he still called her and got her voicemail message, which only made him seethe even further.

the anger eventually subsided when coffee was deposited into his hands, drinking his life force happily (or as happy as nathan could get) while turning the corner from starbucks to sit on one of the many chairs littering the front of the shop. once he settled in and tossed his bag onto the table, nathan finally felt like all was right in the world, completely forgetting his original objective for the day. his coffee was his second love, after all, and it deserved his complete and undivided attention. ]

[ blinks when he understands the words, but not the meaning, wondering why dogs are frequently part of the english language. still, perks up a little bit, recognizing nathan's tone. ]

[ raises an eyebrow, though there's something softer in his expression when he tilts his head slightly. ]

You need more than a book, but I'll make sure you get something better later. You'll need it for more than just talking to me.

[ lips stretch out into a full-blown beaming at the offer, reaching over to grab nathan's hand with both of his. ]

[ looks down at their hands, surprised at himself for not being startled. allows himself to get lost in thought again for a moment, mulling over the word "friend" as if it's a completely foreign word even in his vocabulary. ]

[ inhales, exhales; slowly (slower than he's used to, maybe even a little gently) pulls his hand away from caleb's grip, giving a slight nod. ]

Yeah. I guess it is.

[ head tilts a tad when he sees that expression again, making him look down at the table as if chided. does not resist when nathan pulls away, simply settling back into his own chair with a more subdued smile as he admits to something. ]

Before, I am nervous. Now, I am happy.

Right. This--[ points to his own arm. ]--is "scrawny". This--[ points to caleb's arm. ]--is "normal". Get it now?

[ peers down at their arms for a moment, then looks up with a slight frown. ]

Nathan is normal too.
