[ tranquility does not last long, however, as he sits upright the next minute. his expression is a bizarre combination of shock & happiness. nudges at nathan urgently. ]

. . . ! Nathan! Nathan!!

[ jumps slightly, nearly falling off the couch when caleb moves, gripping onto the edge of the couch to steady himself. ]

W-what!?

[ is steadily losing his coherency in favour of excitement, scrambling away from behind nathan to somehow roll himself onto the floor. ]

I-- is-- very good! Door!!

. . .

[ looks at him like he just grew three heads. slowly shuts his laptop, but does not reply, hoping that if he stays quiet he'll elaborate more. ]

[ except the elaboration that follows is in the form of excited german as he bounds for the door, stumbling & crashing into furniture on the way. ]

[ as if on cue: ]

< Hallooooo~ Is anyone hooooome? >

[ & right on beat as well, he swings the door open & bodily throws himself at the visitor. ]

< Hilda! >

[ catches him easily, as if it's a daily occurrence. ]

< Me! >

[ then gives him a big squeezing hug, laughing. ]

< Ahhhhhh it's been too long! I've missed you! >

[ squeezes right on back, burying his nose into her shoulder as he hugs her as close as possible. ]

< I missed you too! I missed you since I saw you last at the airport! >

[ pulls back slightly to put her hands on his face, patting his cheeks lightly in affection. leans in to nuzzle their noses together, giving another short laugh. ]

< So cute! So cute-! >

[ lifts the hands to ruffle his hair, making some more fond noises. ]

< Look at you, all grown up! Have you gotten taller? I swear you've gotten taller! >

[ makes fond noises in turn, soaking in the affections with enthusiasm. ]

< Nope! I measured yesterday. But I am drinking a lot of strawberry milk so that I can grow! >

[ gives more affectionate pats, a little more gently this time. ]

< Hmmm~ Is that so. >

[ eyes wander over caleb's head, blinking owlishly. ]

< Hm? You have a guest already? >

[ nods, prying himself away so that he can step aside to show her into the apartment. ]

< Yeah, one of my new teammates. >

[ grabs one of her hands to tug her further inside toward where he had been sitting before, waving energetically at nathan. ]

< His name is Nathan. He's really nice! He showed me around town, helped me pick out this apartment, let me into his house the first day, um... gave me food, and is always with me! >

[ & pauses a bit so that he can properly switch languages in his head as he addresses nathan directly. ]

Nathan! She is Hilda. From Deutschland!

[ blinks, slowly standing up from his perch. doesn't know what to do, thus he simply nods in silence. ]

Ah!

[ drops her bag as it gives a hearty THUD on the ground, stepping forward to extend her hand out. ]

It is very nice to meet you, Nathan!

[ looks at her hand, then up at her again. decides to be polite and shake it lightly. ]

Y-yeah, you too.

[ nods a few times, holding his hand still as she surveys him up and down... ]

[ turns her head towards caleb, speaking in an approving yet matter-of-fact manner: ]

< He is very short. >

[ blinks & looks at nathan at her words, looking surprised as if he had just realized the fact. ]

< . . . You're right! >

[ turns the entirety of his attention to nathan again. ]
