[ he's not sure how, but he's absolutely certain that it's one of those mornings where waking up would be a Bad Idea. even when he's only half-awake, he can feel the dull throb in his head, signaling the presence of a progressively worsening migraine. presses a hand to his forehead gingerly as he peeks open one eye. shuts it immediately when the light amplifies the headache even further. somehow manages to roll over onto his side with a soft groan, expression twisting into one of pain as he patterns out his breathing.

several minutes later, reattempts at opening his eyes. is successful this time, leaving him to blink owlishly at the blurry image of the (foreign-but-not) room laid out before him. jerks bodily when he realizes that this is not his room, but tony's. doesn't quite get to the point of throwing himself off the bed, however, hindered quite successfully by the pounding headache. feels slightly better upon realizing that tony's strangely absent, filling him with a sense of hope that he can get away unscathed. as such, he stubbornly pushes down the memories as he wraps his arms around his head, concentrating on breathing & recovering so that he can escape as soon as possible. ]

[ shrugs a little awkwardly. ]

Oh... [ a pause. ] M-Maybe it'll be better next time...

[ gently removes his hand away from oliver's as he goes to fetch his apron. ]

Once was enough for me.

[ watches him go, waddling back to the front desk to settle himself down again. ]

Did your friend stay with you until you felt better?

[ halts mid-reach to the watering can, glancing down for a bit. then continues his course to pick up the can while shaking his head. ]

Wasn't there when I woke up. He's. . . busy.

[ pauses, staring at anthony for a while. opens his mouth, as if to correct him, then loses his nerve at the last minute to give a tiny nod. ]

But... you at least had your other friend, right? Um. H-Hilda was her name? I think...

[ glances at him over his shoulder. ]

She's not a friend. [ pauses, trying to remember what she said. ] She's my friend's boss.

[ struggles, looking for something to say other than she's very tall. ]

She's... um. V-Very nice. And helpful, too! She helped me for a while...

[ nods in understanding & turns back to his work when he finds there isn't anything he can say any further on the matter. but turns back toward oliver after a minute (or less) anyway, when another thought comes to mind. shifts again before speaking. ]

Then. . . I'm sorry I wo-worried you. Boss.

[ turns to look over his shoulder, then moves to fully face him. shakes his head, looking rather pleased despite his words. ]

It's okay. As long as you're not hurt. T-That's what matters the most.

[ relaxes a fraction & thumps his chest in half-meant pride. ]

Healthy as pie. Blows to my pride are nothing.

[ makes a little mm noise, clearly happy with his words. then turns back to his work, only pausing when he hears a cellphone go off. ]

[ quickly starts darting around the room in a panicked state, tripping over his own two feet as he rushes about. ]

[ jumps a bit at the sound as well, almost dropping the watering can in his own surprise. puts it down & also starts wandering around, trying to find oliver's cellphone, knowing very well that missing that particular call would bring hurricane boyfriend to the shop's doorsteps. motivated by the notion of possibly losing his job (again), he quickens his search, poking his head in every nook & cranny to locate the noise that sounds awfully close -- ]

[ stops. slowly draws out his own phone from his pocket. stares down at it. ]

. . . Oh.

[ then his eyes land on the name of the caller displayed on the screen, his face paling. ]

Oh my Gun-- boss! It's mine! We're safe! Ish. . .

[ & right before the last ring ends (& thus sending the caller into his voicemail), he quickly flips open the phone to bring it to his ear. is silent for a moment, then clears his throat. ]

H-- Pizza-- Hel-- [ forces himself to pause. ] H-Hi.

[ is also quiet for a moment, allowing anthony to take his time in both picking up the phone and finding what he wants to say. when it seems like the boy on the line isn't about to say anything else, he speaks: ]

... hey. [ another pause, deciding to just jump right into the first thing he wants to ask: ] How are you feeling?

[ forces himself to stop shaking a bit when he hears a voice that's thankfully not angry, or disgusted (he thinks?). opens his mouth, then closes it. then: ]

I'm, uh. [ another pause. glances around. ] One sec. I'm. . . at work.

[ puts a hand over the speaker to call out to oliver. ]

Uh. Boss? [ gestures to his phone. ] I'll-- be right back.

[ watches him with a concerned gaze. simply nods when he's spoken to, shyly pointing upstairs. ]

Um... you can go up there if you'd like. I-It's quieter.

[ nods & gives oliver a thankful glance before quickly making his way toward & up the stairs. when he thinks he's at a level where he won't be overheard if he keeps to a normal volume, he backs up against a wall to lean against it heavily. speaks into the phone softly. ]
