[ the weeks seemed to drag by so slowly for him whilst robert were away, having little-to-no interest in the happenings around him throughout the duration of the other boy's leave. more often than not he would be seated by his window, gaze locked on the path that robert would surely return on. it was there that he stayed for most of his days, leaving it only to eat, bathe, or when his mother summoned him. regardless he would put on a smile for those around him, as if nothing was amiss and would say that his brother would surely return soon, that he would be gone for only a short while.

that short while turned into weeks. months. far longer than robert had ever been gone before. on his bad days he wondered if his brother had grown tired of his position (of their situation) and thus would not return for good, but those thoughts were always shadowed by the hope and faith he had in his prince. surely the day of his return would come.

opens his eyes slowly when the sound of music reaches his ears again, lifting his gaze back up towards the crowd of dancing people before him. after some time of simply gazing he sits up straighter in his chair, the one that is forever to his mother's right. does not look at her as she speaks to someone, his curiosity nonexistent. instead he raises his glass and slips at the liquid inside, going back to his silent thinking (of robert, of other things that had been on his mind for quite some while) as a somewhat glazed look overcomes his features once more. ]

[ it's been a long few weeks turned months, with more ups and downs on the emotional scale than she's particularly fond of. the rumour mill holds no interest for her, nor does the court's petty politics. however, the mood of a certain princess has been on her mind nearly constantly -- due to worry, perhaps. it's a foreign concept to her when the recipient of the emotion is not robert, but considering the closeness between the twins, she figures it's related to the to-be king enough to count. it had been that feeling & annabelle's stubborn bleak mood that she's late to the party tonight. (of course, had robert been present, she's certain she'd meet the bad end of his dagger or an abrupt release from her duties.)

it's with good reason, however; she rarely takes the time to dress up as the bodyguard of the crown princess should (too stuffy. limits movement. entirely not practical for a woman such as her). only her attire matches those of men, not women, right down to the blade hanging at her hip. she shoots a smirk in the direction of any staring individuals, sauntering into the large room where the main bulk of the party is being held. she finds her target with one quick scan & soon she's cutting right through the dancers toward where annabelle is seated. ducks her head in a small, unmeant bow when she arrives. still smiling, she flicks her tied back hair off a shoulder with a hand while offering the other toward the princess. ]

Hello, princess. Are you without a date tonight?

[ blinks out of his stupor when she speaks, looking up at her curiously. slowly smiles and gingerly reaches out with a hand to place it into alicia's own. ]

I am afraid so, mysterious stranger. Am I to assume that you will be rectifying this travesty?

[ grasps it firmly & tugs him onto his feet, smirk deepening slightly into a more genuine smile. ]

[ goes along quite willingly despite his words, eyes shifting over to his mother for but a moment before returning back to alicia. ]

[ raises a brow, pulling her hand away a tad halfheartedly. ]

'Must'? A woman of my standing does not take so well to pity, princess.

[ lowers his own hands, gently folding them over one another. ]

Oh? I apologize, I must have missed that announcement.

[ offers her hand again. ] So with that in mind?

[ chuckles lightly behind a hand, though he keeps to his silence while reaching out to take her hand once more. ]

[ raises the hand to upward so that she can plant a quick kiss to the back of it. draws back with a small smile. ]

[ quirks one corner of her lips upward in amusement. straightens a little & plants her free hand on her hip. ]

Hmph. So you are saying that I will be bested by a soulless object?
