[ it's after his meet-up with his supervisor that he gets a call from robin to babysit alice. of course he says 'yes' -- he has nothing planned for the day & would never consciously turn down time with his niece. & like he told robin before, more free air should do him some good; who knows, if he's feeling better in mind, the body might follow. (he didn't really believe that since the damage from the accident has been said to be absolute, but a little bit of feigned hope wasn't too heavy to carry around.)

that's the context to their current scenario: at the park with alice, doing whatever she wants until it's time for lunch & ice cream. time with uncle nick is the time to get spoiled, so he doesn't worry too much about feeding her nutritional things; he's pretty sure his mom sis has that covered anyway. ]

[ bends to take two of the bags himself, awkwardly hooking them onto his hands before stepping back into the apartment. doesn't answer 'til he gets the bags over to the kitchen area. stares down at the contents peeking through the plastic in dubiously. ]

You plan on cooking?

Yep! [ shuts the door and kicks off his shoes, wandering on over to the kitchen to put the bags down on the counter. shrugs off his coat, placing it elsewhere before rolling up his sleeves. ] I've got some experience in the kitchen, after all.

[ starts pulling things out, doing his best to show off the food with a wave of a hand, as if trying to sell the thing(s). ]

Chicken, since I'm sure you had turkey or ham yesterday. [ rummages around, pulling out some cranberries. ] Cranberry pie, which I will make from scratch! [ holds up some vegetables. ] And I will saute these. There's also rolls and sweet potatoes!

[ digs around some more, pushing three or four of the other bags aside. ]

That's misc stuff that I'll need along the way. Pie crust, spices, some regular groceries for you...

[ shakes his head, setting everything from the other bags out on the counter. ]

No, we usually have more. My family are a bunch of pigs.

I am! [ sets aside the empty plastic bags, pulling out some pots and pans while he talks. ] It's fun at dinner, though. We have a war over the food, and my dad just sits back and watches.

They just can't keep up, that's all.

So how many turkeys did you devour yesterday?

Maybe three or four, give or take. We also had ham, too...

[ sad thing is, he can't tell if that's three or four per person or for the whole family. when in doubt? always overshoot.

watches lyssa do his thing, wondering if he could just make himself toast. ]

Sure I do. Eating with people you like is special, especially around the holiday season!

[ glances at lyssa briefly & then starts moving about too, putting things away into the fridge. or at least, the stuff that lyssa hadn't mentioned on using anyway. ]

Yeah, but I meant to ask if the meal have to be this large.

[ lifts the wooden spoon he's currently holding to shake it at nick a little. ]

Yes, because then I can make extra to ensure you'll have enough food to last you until I come back again.

Normal people can last on half of what you brought.

[ turns back to the food, popping the chicken into the oven. ]

And normal people usually eat more than you do. [ pulls out a paper (the recipe for the pie) from his pocket, looking over it. ] Plus Robin and I have an agreement. While I'm gone, she makes sure you eat more than a bagel. When I come back for winter break, I'll take over!

[ stares for a little while longer & then snorts in amusement. turns back to putting the rest of the food in his fridge. ]

Am I going to be potty trained next?

Nope! [ wipes his hands off on a dishtowel, wandering on over to put his arms around his middle. playfully rubs his face into his back, gently headbutting once. ] But you're going to get a lot of hugs.

[ grunts for show, shifting a bit so both of them don't go crashing head-first into the fridge. ]

Better hugs than extra calories. [ gives one of lyssa's hand a light pat. ] Don't want to compete in fat percentage with that lady of yours.
