[ it was with some strange stroke of luck that nathan had confirmed the non-presence of albert, brianna, and damon in the mansion for the weekend, almost suspiciously double-checking with them all to make sure; albert was off to god knows where, brianna flew out to hawaii for a photo shoot, and damon was spending some quality time with his friends before the summer officially came to a close.

nathan didn't think it would be this simple. lo and behold, the mansion was completely his for the taking for at least two and a half days. this prompted the almost juvenile-like excitement that overcame him when he invited caleb over for a real two-night stay inside the mansion, to show him where he lived (where he didn't like to live) and let him explore what he normally did not allow people to see. so this is why he tugged at caleb's hand enthusiastically, his body betraying the way he tried to school his expression, knowing somewhere in the back of his mind that in the end it was quite a futile attempt.

stops when they're far enough inside the mansion, not bothering to let caleb's hand go as he turns slightly to look at him. ]

Well, here we are. [ a pause, as if his excitement was slowly wearing off. ] Again.

[ drops the book so that he can grab onto him with both hands in attempt to prevent a messy collapse. ]

[ blinks a bit owlishly at his own actions, as if the last few seconds were a quick blur to him. still feels a bit weak as he slowly starts to stand up with caleb's help. ]

[ keeps both hands steady on both of nathan's upper arms, patiently waiting for nathan to regain his footing. ]

[ shakes his head and eventually stays steady, straightening his clothing out a bit. ]

Naw, I want to make the pizza. Hungry, remember?

[ withdraws one hand carefully. ]

Okay. If Nathan is sure.

[ smiles up at him, giving his hand a small pat. ]

[ a small, sheepish (pleased) sound escapes him as he draws the other hand away. bends down to pick up the book from the floor, then straightens to show off the book in a flourish. ]

[ can't help but laugh lightly at that, thoroughly amused at the gesture. ]

[ moves from the spot to start grabbing at what he knows they'd need. pauses when he only has a pan, flour, sauce and some cheese set on the counter. hums in thought. ]

[ is flipping through the book, eyes going a little cross-eyed. ]

Erm. . . book says. . . pineapple! Asparagus, spinach. . .

[ turns back to him, leaning on the counter. ]

I meant what do we need to make the dough. Don't think we have any pre-made kind, so...

[ puts the book down on the couch with a loud, excited THUD as he starts moving around the kitchen area in a frenzy, poking his head & fingers into everything in search of the necessary ingredients. puts everything on the counter in a neat row when his search is done, looking mighty proud at his work. ]

[ looks surprised at him after he's finished, blinking a few times. picks one of the items up, inspecting it. ]

How many times have you made pizza?

Oh. [ pauses. thinks about it. ] That makes sense.

So that means you can handle this part all by yourself, right?

Cool. I'll let you get to work, then.

[ wanders over to the empty counter space and with some difficulty he sits atop it, swinging his legs around as he watches caleb in silence. ]

[ beams at the attention & starts getting to work. pauses several times through the process, looking a little glazed as he pokes & prods at a memory he's been using as reference for years. the batter comes together slowly, one ingredient at a time. hands are gentle as he molds into something more solid.

only looks up at nathan after a long moment of concentration, cheeks flushed with pride & flour all over his face & hands. ]

Done! [ glances down at his work briefly. ] Erm. Almost.

[ peers down at his work when he's finished, giving him an encouraging smile. reaches over to pet the top of caleb's head as best as he can. ]

[ then straightens to extend & open both arms toward nathan to catch him if he wants to slide off the counter. keeps yammering while doing this: ] What is next step?

[ blinks a little at him, quietly and slowly shuffling to the edge of the counter. reaches out to hold onto his forearms for support, slipping into his hold as to not fall within the motion. also talks throughout this: ]

Um... think we just need to put the sauce and toppings on it. I think.

[ twitches a bit & brings nathan into a complete hug when he slides off, not wanting to have a repeat performance of just a few moments ago. ]

Erm. . . I do not know how make sauce.

[ gives an "oof" at the gentle impact, having not expected the hug. doesn't speak for a moment, too busy placing his arms awkwardly around caleb's neck for support. flushes and buries his face into caleb's hair as he murmurs in reply. ]

We just... pour some tomato sauce in there. Maybe.
