[ shivers a little underneath the covers when a chill disturbs his slumber, tucking himself a bit closer to caleb to leech off of his warmth. after a moment or two he cracks an eye open, shifting his gaze on over to the window when he feels like something is amiss. blinks once, twice, then slowly sits up in the bed as he gets a closer look at the outside world.

when he sees the snow that had piled up over the night and continued to litter the ground he can't help but get on his knees, smooshing his face and hands up against the glass as if he were an overexcited child. pries himself away after the tiniest of bounces on the bed to instead direct his attention to his sleeping companion. places a hand on his shoulder and lightly shakes. ]

Caleb. Caleb!

[ picks up two candy canes to hang them on the tree as well, his face twisting into apt concentration as he struggles in making the candy cane hang properly & steadily on the branches. ]

[ continues this pattern for a while longer with caleb before he pulls back, looking the tree up and down. ]

Well, it's a start. [ squats down by the box, poking around in it. ] What do we do next?

[ scurries over to grab another box, opening that when he returns to his spot next to nathan in front of the tree. points to the colourful array. ]

[ blinks, peering down into the box curiously. ]

[ nods excitedly & brings out two of the ornaments (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/Airleas/christmas-balls1.jpg) in the box, one dangling from each hand. ]

Oh... [ can't help but laugh at that, taking one of them into his hands. ] Bulbs.

[ peers at him curiously, a smile still stretching his lips even as he repeats after nathan as usual: ]

Bulbs. [ jiggles the ornaments in his hands. ] Name is bulbs?

Mm. Christmas bulbs. [ stands, lifting the one in his hands to place it on the tree. ] But I think "circle" works just fine, too.

[ thinks about this for a moment. then holds up the red one. ]

Circle. [ after carefully hanging that on the tree, he holds up the green one. ] Bulbs.

[ hums a little, taking another one to stick it on the tree. ]

Circle bulbs, maybe?

Ja! Circle bulbs! Nathan is smart!

[ unconsciously puffs out his chest a little. ]

I know! Genius!

[ nods excitedly. ]

[ hand stills when he puts another bulb on the tree, a thought striking him. ]

You know, I always got teased for saying stuff like that. Or got a sarcastic remark, especially from Damon and Aaron, but...

[ stills the hand on the ornament, lips twitching into a soft smile. ]

You're sincere about it. It's a first. Thank you.

[ the words make him pause as he deciphers them in his mind carefully. when the mental translation finishes, his grin loosens into a smaller, more private smile. reaching over with a hand, he runs his fingers through nathan's hair, gentle & fond. lets the petting continue for a moment, then leans over & presses a small kiss to the top of the boy's head afterward. ]

I say true word, but gern geschehen, Nathan.

[ closes his eyes at the contact, only opening them again when caleb speaks. opens his mouth, closes it, then stares down at the ground, face growing warm. ]

I know. And um... I-- uh. [ fidgets, feeling self-conscious as he murmurs: ] I-Ich liebe dich. A lot.

[ pauses again, but for a different reason. then his entire face seems to brighten. after hanging the ornament in his hands, he steps forward to wrap his arms around nathan, holding him close against his chest. ]

Ich liebe dich, Nathan. Ich werde dich immer lieben.

[ returns the gesture slowly, hands clutching at caleb's shirt before he relaxes into the hold. presses his face into his chest. ]

Danke. Danke schön.

[ presses a soft kiss on top of nathan's head. murmurs quietly: ]

[ smiles a little stupidly, peering up at caleb as he tries his hand at german further. ]

U-Um. De... Dekorieren Sie mehr?

[ perks up at the german, metaphorical tail wagging at full speed. ]

Ja! Dekorieren Sie mehr! Machen wir den Baum ziemlich!

[ eyes avert elsewhere, attempting to slowly translate it. ]

Uh. Tree. Pretty tree? We'll make the tree pretty?

[ nods & nuzzles at nathan's hair with even more excitement. ]

Ja! It is right! Very good!
